I totally hate it when some right wingers, upon hearing a suggestion that the government should fund or regulate things, automatically assume that the suggester wants a mind-controlling, Big Brother 1984 government. Here’s an actual quote from a conversation I had:
Me:
I think the government should nationalize the auto plants that are closing in Ontario.
Right Winger:
So I suppose you also want mind control chips, national ID cards, and think that chemtrails are a great idea?
For the record, no.
Also, the concept of Dictatorship of the Proletariat is widely misunderstood. Some (including me a while back) think that the Dictatorship of the Proletariat justifies harsh totalitarian regimes like that in the former Soviet Union and the one currently in China. The Dictatorship of the Proletariat is a regime in which the workers rule completely, therefore, a single dictator would be out of the question. It is my personal opinion that a Dictatorship of the Proletariat is what we know as Social Democracy. The workers, the majority, maintain control through democracy, and the government rules for the majority. There. The Dictatorship of the Proletariat is not a totalitarian hellhole reminiscent of Orwellian ani-fantasy.
What’s wrong with mind control chips?
